I have been blessed with a wonderful family. I have a mom and dad, two older brothers, and a younger sister. My mom and dad support me in everything that I do. I will glance over at them during a timeout in a game or after a race, and they are always there cheering me on. When I was younger I would always play basketball and football with my older brothers. I would always lose, and as a result I would often run inside crying. I was very competitive, and still am. Yet every day I would go back for more, often getting pushed around, but laughing and smiling when I would steal the ball. My brothers helped shape me into the competitor that I am today. My little sister is the cutest thing in the whole world. She is eleven years old, and I call her a mini me. She strives to be like me in school and in sports, and it makes me feel wonderful to know that I am an example for her. There are many nights when we stay awake for hours talking and laughing. We play basketball together whenever I’m not busy, and she works hard. Although she is my younger sister, I admire her and learn from her.
Often I hear people talking about how much they hate their parents, or how their sister is a jerk, or how all their family does is fight. I am very grateful that my family is united. I love my parents, and I am very close to my brothers and sister. A family should be something that brings you joy, I know my family does. They are people that are there for you no matter what, and they cheer you up when your sad. Its true that sometimes you will disagree with one another, but that is how you learn and grow stronger together. Find the JOY in your FAMILY.
I have many heroes. My mom, my dad, Michael Jordan.. the list goes on and on. The hero (heroine) that I am choosing to write about is Kelli. She probably does not know that she is one of my heroes, but she is =).
Kelli is my best friend. I have never ever had a better friend than her. She is like my sister, and most of the time we are inseparable. I look up to her in many ways. She is always thinking of others, and she will give you her honest opinion. I love her, we have the best times together laughing over stupid thigs that don’t even make sense.
One way that she was a heroine was by coming to Thurston. She used to go to school at Lowell High, where she played basketball and volleyball. I always wanted her to come to Thurston, and I would mention it to her a lot. I wanted so badly to play basketball and go to school with my best friend. Freshman year passed and we saw eachother from time to time. Then one day she called and said that there was a possibility of her coming to Thurston. I was so excited! They put their beautiful house up for sale, and bought a house close to the school. It sounds simple, but it was a lot of work. Along with paperwork and forms they had people telling her that she wasnt going to be eligible to play basketball. Someone was saying that she really wasn’t living in the Thurston area, when she was. That just caused drama… they had proof that kelli lived by Thurston! Well to make a long story a little shorter, I now go to school with my best friend. =) Kelli is a heroine throgh her courage. She left a school full of friends and people that she knew, and came to a school where she knew hardly anyone. “Just a number”, thats how she described it. Her first day didn’t go the greatest, and she felt a little overwhelmed. She went through many physical and emotional things just so that we could be together. This is not the only reason that she is my heroine. Its what she does everyday. Its her smile and giggles that make me happy when im sad. Its the way she works so hard to be the best that she can be on the court. Its when she says, “i’m so proud of you friend!” and hugs me. She always wants the best for me, and I can tell just by the way she acts. Its who she is. She is a true hero. She is my true heroe, and my best friend. Thank you Kelli for helping me be the best that I can be, and for not leting me settle for anything less.
I would like to see a wolf in the wild. They are one of my favorite animals and are very beautiful. They definately belong in the wild, not in the zoo.
Orange is like a basketball waiting to be dribbled. The excitement of a game getting ready to start. It is my love, and the game that I love to play.
A flower blooms as I walk in to the fresh Spring air. The beautiful smell draws me near to the flower, and I gently touch its petals with my fingertips.
Children drinking the delicious juice out of oranges. I wish I could be there and see the smiles that spread across their faces.
I run and pick up my baby kitten and and pet its soft fur. I hear it purr very loudly and I laugh as I say “Silly kitty, why don’t we go inside now?”
Earth Day is coming up on April 22. It is very important that we keep our world a clean and beautiful place. If you are wondering, “What can I do to make a difference?”, than the answere is simple. REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE. This may not seem like a big deal, but it really does help. Also throw your trash away in a gardage… not on the ground. Our world would be so much more beautiful without trash everywhere. I hope everyone has a good earth day =) !!
“Have any of you been iceblocking?,” Tuma said with a smile on her face. The next thing I know I am sitting on a folded up towel that is placed ontop of a big square block of ice. Looking down the dark hill I was anxiouse, excited and nervouse all at the same time. Not able to wait any longer, I pushed off. My legs lifted off the ground as I leaned back. I screamed as I slid down the hill with great speed…. but it didnt last long. Losing balance I flopped off the block of ice, still screaming, and rolled an additional three feet down the hill. Laughing all the way back up to the top of the hill, I watched Natalie slide down the hill on a block of ice into the darkness of the night.
I listened to the podcast, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. In this podcast there were really good sound effects. I could hear noises in the background that fit the stories scenes. For example, I could hear birds chirping and footsteps of a person walking. It made it seem as if I was in the story. I liked this podcast a lot because I read the book a long time ago and really liked it. It brought back some memories. The guy who made the podcasts voice fit the caracter (Brian) well. His voice changes tone when he talks as himself, apposed to when he talks as Brian. I liked how he blends his voice into the story. He takes pieces from the story and talks in first person, as if he is in the story himself. Then he will take his personal opinion of the book and mix it in with the rest. It flows very well. I really enjoyed listening to this podcast!
